I love the direction they've gone with the graphics. Could never really get into the first one, but this looks interesting. For a game that has been in development for 10 years, it had want to be.

A lot of us will probably end up getting it anyway - comes in the pack with HL2 EP2.

You can pre-purchase for Ep. 2 today. The "orange box" version includes HL2 and ep 1, as well as ep 2, portal and TF2. It is USD$45 if you pre-order, or US$50 later. The pre-order inlcudes a key for the TF2 beta, which starts next monday...

So many new games, so little time.

I was huuuge fan of TF1, and the fact that most of us already have steam accounts means it would be easy to get momentum in the group for having a go.

Hmm, thinking about the costing -

Orange Box
HL2 / Episode 1 / Episode 2 / Portal / TF2
US 50

Separately with only the stuff that interests me
TF2 US20
Portal US20

With Episode 2 US30, which is a marginal purchase.

Hmm wonder what their marketing people want me to do?

I will go down the Orange Box track - the visuals on TF2 just look too damn cool.

Yes, I might have to get both TF2. I managed to reinstate my steam account today so spending $20US is a no brainer. I, like Matt, had a lot of fun on TF1.

Quake Wars , which I preordered (but its only $10 on the line), sounded much better after reading the newbie section, so maybe some variety is called for with no outright winner.

Yup, I've pre-ordered so I can save USD5 and get the beta.

USD45 for all that seems like a bargain, even if I only play occationally. Compared to Aussie prices for games, steam is really good value. Plus it is so much more reliable than EALink.

Well if your up for TF2 make sure you add your friend details to the string at

By the looks of things Steam have done a lot of work on the community functionality. For example you can access the freinds page within any game.

edit: Mort - I changed the link to point to the "what's your STEAM account name". I assume that's what you meant to refer to.

The game was pre-loading for me this morning - I'm expecting the beta to be playable from the steam game list. Some people on forums are talking as if it is the full game, not just the beta. We'll see.

I just paid for the Orange box... Now the download... I hope I have enough disk space.

Coz we already own HL and HL:Episode one, we can give the version in the Orange box to a friend...

So, BigDaddy or any other clan members out there who haven't experienced Half Life before, let us know and I'm sure we can pass you your very own copy!

Had a good play last night and I am still giggling. Its all very old skool action lots of running, jumping and circle strafing but cute as hell with the graphics.

Time will tell if the varied game modes and character classes will keep the interest up. Its a very different game to BF2142 but a change is as good as a holiday.

The Orange Box looks the way to go. Think I'll grab it tonite. As a clan were gonna have a lot of spare copies of HL2. This will make two spares I have ...
