HL2: episode 1 available now

Postby Brad » Fri Jun 02, 2006 11:05 am

For those that haven't noticed, HL2:episode 1 has been released. You can purchase it over steam for USD20, assuming you didn't pre-purchase a week ago and save 2 bucks.

HL2:ep 1 + patch 1.3 = cure for BF2 addiction ?
I thought I had an appetite for destruction, but all I wanted was a club sandwich.

I just cant get into single player FPS anymore. Tried playing FEAR and got bored after a few levels. Keep on meaning to get hold of a decent RTS title (Dawn of War? Darwinia?) but havent yet. Will be interested to hear if Episode 1 is worth it.

Might be tempted to pick up a new title when I leave Westpac next week and get my leaving gift Harvey Norman certificate. Although those high end overpriced gaming mouse look tempting as well.

I'm still pissed at wasting money on HL2 in the first place - even half price it was a dud, and the bollocking crap that is Steam didn't help.

Reading the reviews, US $20 for Episode 1 for only 6-9 hours game play? I just cant bring myself to do it.

HL2 Episode 1 is a waste of money. You get about 5 hours game play and the game is missing three things from the original HL2:

1. The ability to pick up a circular saw with your gravity gun and throw it at a zombie chopping its head off
2. Picking up a petrol can and throwing it at a zombie and hearing it scream (you only get to do this once the whole game)
3. Driving cars and boats

The screenshots for HL2 episode 2 look good

I am considering pickuing up episode 2 - more the free Portal and Team Fortress than anything else.

Picked up episode 1 the other day - for $13 aussie or so I figure I owe the franchise that much.

More of the same but am enjoying it anyway - the character animation looks good.
