BB speedtest

Postby Mort » Sat Feb 16, 2008 12:28 pm

If you are familiar with Speedtest then here's a new thing. BuddaBudda is now proud to present our very own. Speedtest mini!

You won't see the same speed results as it's limited by my own connection, but I'd be curious to see what you do get, so post your results here!

BuddaBudda mini speedtest

I get 20936/8183 kbps, so beat that :)

download 676kbps, upload 569kbps.

I'm surprised it isn't a bit quicker than that - the connection should run to about 1Mbps.

Download speeds have been a bit all over the place lately. I'm also still using my ADSL1 modem so I haven't seen how much higher it will go.

Basically, the best download speed you could get would match my upload speed, currently 800, and if you get 80-90% of that is probably the most you'll really ever get.

Your upload speed though should in theory be your best possible upload speed as long as my download is working faster than it, which currently it "mostly" is.

So, I would expect the best download speed you could currently get would be 640-720
Best upload should be whatever your connection can deliver.

Your download is about what I'd expect... upload I was hoping for more :(

I'm using ADSL2+ on iinet

Download 10255
upload 685

I have iinet set on the "controlled settings" see below. The stability is excellent, can't remember the last time i had a drop out. On faster settings the connection drops out regularly.

This still doesn't explain why my VOIP is unusable, with constant static throughout the conversation.

Profile Speed Description
Safe ADSL1 Speed up to 8,000kbps If you have an older modem it may not support ADSL2/2+ speeds in excess of 8,000kbps. So play it safe.
Controlled ADSL2/2+ Speeds up to 24,000 kbps (FAST) If you want to push the speed up a little but keep a stable connection. You may need this if you have poor line quality.
Standard ADSL2/2+ Speeds up to 24,000 kbps (FASTER) This is our default setting that suits most users. It's still really fast, but usually gives good connection stability.
Thrillseeker ADSL2/2+ Speeds up to 24,000 kbps (FASTEST) If you want to push the broadband speed limit. You'll definitely get the fastest speeds possible on your line. But you may hit the occasional speed bump or two.
Gamer ADSL2/2+ Speeds up to 24,000 kbps (UNINTERRUPTED) Well suited for time sensitive, interactive applications such as gaming, this selection is designed to provide the quickest connection response rather than a faster download speed.

Down 688
Up 236 limited by my cable connection.

When are one of these new connections going to make a big step forward. I still see no need to dump my cable as its download is consistantly over 10000.

You might want to try that again. I think you are giving me the numbers from testing on speedtest.net, not the mini-speedtest on the BB server :) No matter how much I'd love it, my connection is *not* fast enough to give you a download speed of 10255!

I still miss that from when I had cable :(. When I get an ADSL2 modem though I should be able to beat it from what I can tell. It's annoying that they still limit cable uploads that much, and still insist on the restrictions that were the main reason I switched.

Never fear though, fibre to the node (or maybe home) is on the way and we'll all have min 12Mb connections in no time!

702 down is impressive, 134 up isn't :(. Maybe you caught my connection at a bad time, you should be able to get close to the same up as the full speedtest gives you. Can you give it another try sometime and see if you get a better up speed?

Getting better. Brad should retest again as well. I've just put in the ADSL2 modem and getting better sync now... nearly 11,000/850.
