Favourite Sellers

Postby Brad » Mon Dec 05, 2005 10:38 am

As long as I am avoiding work, I'll start a thread of places to buy online from (or at least check prices).

I've bought from all of these places, with no problems.

http://www.itestate.com.au - usually the cheapest, but what they show online and what they have instock are very different things. Ring before you go...

http://www.pcmarket.com.au - decent prices, good service, down the road from Piers.

http://www.auspcmarket.com.au - good range, fast and reliable.
http://www.eyo.com.au - used to be the cheapest, but have slipped over the last year.

My current favourite

http://www.cworld.com.au - They are in the City on York st near QVB.

And don't forget it is sometimes worth checking out Harris as well. They have surprised me on occasions with the best deals on non component stuff like network switches, UPS's etc.
http://www.ht.com.au

I've bought stuff from eyo a few times, but haven't found them to be the cheapest for quite some time, and their range has slipped a lot as well.

There's another place almost right next door to PCMarket where I got some stuff from as well. Can't remember the name but if I do I'll update this post.

Looking at their site I thought it looked familiar. Checking their contact details confirmed it...

ITEstate are our old friends Custo nee IT-Rite.

Yep. Custo was the joint venture they did with 2 other shops. When that folded, they went to Itestate instead of it-rite. The Custo web site refers to itestate now, and indicates they handle the warranty claims for Custo.

I've been check prices across the board and itestate & pcmarket are pretty much the best options, but they have a bit of competition -

http://www.umart.net are in Enfield but have good prices (on the whole)
http://www.arc.com.au are everywhere, and are near the mark
http://www.zipcomputers.com.au are in Parra and have the occasioanl bargain
http://www.pcmaniacs.com.au seem to be the cheapest in Australia, but they're in Vic and don't list their shipping costs...
http://www.megapc.com.au supplied Keith's 6600GT and have pretty good prices across the board.

I've made a spreadsheet of price queries for a fairly major upgrade to my system, and thought you might as well all benefit, it covers most of our regular favourite vendors, and shopbot.

http://www.staticice.com.au/ is a good website that covers most of the ones listed above plus more.

They seem to be cheaper for mobos, but more expensive for everything else - I was comparing with ARC, and checked CPU, mobo & memory prices.
Didn't check HDD or GPU, probably should have done...

If you're in Melbourne, try Scorpion Technology or PC Maniacs

PC Maniacs seems a mixed bag. I will have a look at Scorpion.

http://fluidtek.com.au/ - Carlingford, besides Bunnings

I haven't bought anything from them (yet), bu their prices are fairly even with ITEstate. Quite a few guys I work with use them regularly though.
